SEO Your H1 Tag In WordPress | WP Learning Lab

The H1 tag is one of the most important places to add your main focus keyword.

Usually WordPress themes are coded in such a way that the title you choose for the post or page becomes the H1 tag.

To optimize h1 all you have to do is not make the h1 too long (less than 72 characters) and put your main focus keyword as close to the beginning as possible.

The trick is that the title still has to make sense and read well for human visitors. That’s where the fine-balance comes in. It would be ideal to have the main keyword first thing in the h1, but often that doesn’t read well.

So you have to sacrifice some SEO power to prioritize the needs of the human visitors to your site.

After all, it’s those human visitors that will end up taking the action you want on your site which is probably opting in, buying something or clicking on an ad.
